History And Creation Of The IGA Food Store

History And Creation Of The IGA Food Store, is going to be today’s post here in Discover My Inventions, IGA is a U.S. brand of grocery stores that operates in more than 30 countries. Unlike the chain store business model, IGA operates as a franchise through stores that are owned separately from the brand.

Many of these stores operate in small town markets and belong to families that manage them. It was founded in the United States as the Independent Grocers Alliance. The headquarters is in Chicago, Illinois, IGA is a great store and one of the things I like about the IGA food stores as they have a great daily in many different varieties of your favored hot foods.

IGA daily is a great and paste way to get a complete dinner with their fried or roasted chicken hot dogs and much more, IGA food store has a great variety of fresh produce I live in Eastern Kentucky in the county of Floyd and they are three IGA food stores here in this county alone. IGA was started in May 1926 when a group of 100 independent retailers in Poughkeepsie, New York, and Sharon, Connecticut, led by J. Frank Grimes, organized themselves into a single marketing system.

Guidance from the IGA management came in the form of marketing and access to a consistent supply chain. After a few years, the company began making its own canned food brand. By the end of its first year the group had expanded to include more than 150 retailers. In 1930 there were over 8,000 grocery stores using the IGA name. William Olsen was the company CEO until 1988, when Thomas Haggai replaced him.

In 2016 he retired, the company uses the Hometown Proud Supermarkets slogan. Today, many IGA grocery stores are still located in smaller cities and towns throughout the United States, The stores in the alliance remain independently owned and operated. The alliance oversees several resources shared among the member stores.

These include, most visibly, the IGA store brand products and the logistical network that distributes them. The alliance also provides training and assessment programs and an online advertising platform. It regularly coordinates promotional events and charity fundraising events that benefit store communities.

History And Invention Of Body Wash

History And Invention Of Body Wash, is going to be today’s post here in Discover My Inventions, I really love my body wash, and I went from using soap to body in the spring of 2004, and I buy just about every kind of mens body wash on the market, body wash is also known as shower gel is a liquid product used for cleaning the body. Most commercial shower gels do not contain any soap, in the technical sense, although they are sometimes referred to as soap, colloquially.

Shower gel is an emulsion of water and detergent base (derived from petroleum), usually with added fragrance, used as a skin cleansing agent in the shower or bath.[citation needed] It has advantages over soap because it is less irritating to the skin,[citation needed] lathers better in hard water areas and does not leave a mineral residue on the skin or in the bathtub after usage.

Shower gel is available in different colors and scents. Practically all shower gels on the market today are pH-balanced, some shower gels are herb-infused, and some claim aroma therapeutic benefits. Shower gels for men may contain the ingredient menthol, which gives a cooling and stimulating sensation on the skin, and many men’s shower gels are also designed specifically for use on hair and body and are thus more convenient to use.

Shower gels contain milder surfactant bases than shampoos and in addition to being pH-friendly to the skin, most also contain gentle conditioning agents in the formula. This means that shower gels can also double as an effective and perfectly acceptable substitute to shampoo, even if they are not labelled as a hair and body wash. Washing hair with shower gel should give approximately the same result as using a moisturising shampoo.

History And Invention Of The Solar Lights

History And Invention Of The Solar Lights, is going to be today’s post here in Discover My Inventions, solar lights I think was a great idea and invention, solar lights is a great way to cut back on energy cost, and one of the things I like and enjoy about solar lights is they come in so many different shapes categories and sizes, and I have recently bought and put up a little solar light at my back steps.

One of the things I like about solar lights is they’re not expensive to have is like my little solar line put up at my back steps that goes up onto my deck to give extra light, which only costed me five dollars and it does a great job. Solar-powered household lighting can replace other light sources like candles or kerosene lamps. Solar lamps use renewable energy with infinity supply which is cheaper than standard lamps.

In addition, solar lamps reduce health risk as kerosene lamps have a bad impact on human health. However, solar lamps may have higher initial cost, are weather dependent, solar lamps for use in rural situations often have the capability of providing a supply of electricity for other devices, such as for charging cell phones. American investors have been working towards developing a $10 / unit solar lantern for replacement of kerosene lamps

In the past solar panels used large crystals mainly made out of silicon which produced electricity when it was exposed to light. When electrons in silicon are exposed to light, they start to vibrate from their fixed positions following thermodynamics rules. Furthermore, it produces heat from the vibration and the movement.

Through this, silicon turns a large portion of light energy into electricity. However, manufactures found silicon too expensive to make and to put in as a component of solar lamps, photoelectric effect used in solar cells was first noted by Edmond Becquerel, a French physicist, in 1839. Albert Einstein won a Nobel prize in 1922 by exploring the nature of light and the photovoltaic technology based on photoelectric effect. The first photovoltaic module was built in 1954 by Bell Laboratories.

Invention And History Of The Gas Pump

Invention And History Of The Gas Pump, is going to be today’s post here in Discover My Inventions, fuel or gas pump that used every second at the filling stations for multiple vehicles, the gas pop was invented in 1885 for pumping kerosene for lanterns and stoves, so I decided to write a blog post invention and history of the gas pump.

A gus pump is also known as a dispenser is a machine at a filling station that is used to pump gasoline, petrol, diesel, CNG, CGH2, HCNG, LPG, LH2, ethanol fuel, biofuels like biodiesel, kerosene, or other types of fuel into vehicles. Fuel dispensers are also known as bowsers (in Australia), petrol pumps (in Commonwealth countries), or gas pumps (in North America).

The first gasoline pump was invented and sold by Sylvanus Bowser in Fort Wayne, Indiana on September 5, 1885, this pump was not used for automobiles, as they were not yet being sold. It was instead used for some kerosene lamps and stoves. He later improved upon the pump by adding safety measures, and also by adding a hose to directly dispense fuel into automobiles. For a while, the term bowser was used to refer to a vertical gasoline pump. Although the term is not used anymore in the United States, except as a term for trucks that carry and dispense fuel to large aircraft at airports, it still is used sometimes in Australia and New Zealand.

The first fuel dispenser was patented by Norwegian John J. Tokheim in 1901. Fuel retail industry giant Tokheim-OPW, was named after him, many early gasoline pumps had a calibrated glass cylinder on top, the desired quantity of fuel was pumped up into the cylinder as indicated by the calibration. Then the pumping was stopped and the gasoline was let out into the customer’s tank by gravity.

When metering pumps came into use, a small glass globe with a turbine inside replaced the measuring cylinder, but assured the customer that gasoline really was flowing into the tank, a modern fuel dispenser is logically divided into two main parts — an electronic head containing an embedded computer to control the action of the pump, drive the pump’s displays, and communicate to an indoor sales system; and secondly, the mechanical section which in a ‘self contained’ unit has an electric motor, pumping unit, meters, pulsers and valves to physically pump and control the fuel flow.

Invention And History Of The Electric Roaster

Invention And History Of The Electric Roaster, is going to be today’s post here in Discover My Inventions, the electric roaster is a really great appliance to have specially around the holiday season, the electric roaster works really great any time of the year, and I own 2 of them and it takes a lot of work out of holiday dinner such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The electric roaster was invented by ALFRED W. GARDES, and the patent was filed on February 16, 1944. Electric roaster’s also comes in different sizes, and can be used for many different recipes such as turkey ham vegetable soup or meats of any kind, the electric roaster comes in handy and can be used on them hot summer days out on decks carports or porches with a heavy duty extension cord.

Electric roaster ovens have been around since the 1940s and are a great addition to the kitchen of anyone who has occasion to cook for large groups of people, these small appliances make it possible for those with limited oven space to prepare large holiday meals, as well as providing for big dishes for community and church suppers.

However, choosing the right electric roaster oven to meet your needs can sometimes be difficult, I work with a lot of recipes and do a lot of cooking, and what I suggest is when it comes to shopping for electric roaster, is to have one of each small medial and large, it just depends on what kind of dinner you’re planning for just a small sample family dinner and then the small to medium roaster could be just right for you.

It just depends on what kind of event you may be planning such as weddings church dinners or a dinner for the holidays, when you expecting a lot of company, then a large roaster is the right tool to have, the electric roaster is easy to store and easy to operate for even the new beginners that’s just starting out, and they work really well all you gotta do is just follow your recipe instructions for the right temperature to set your roaster on and it does the rest.

Invention And History Of The Fax Machine

Invention And History Of The Fax Machine, is going to be today’s post here in Discover My Inventions, the fax machine was developed to use to send business mail from one location to another through them by a telephone line which has its own number which is a fax number, and a fax machine can also be used through them by just a phone number which is adjusted for the fax machine to kick on after so many rings.

Fax is also (short for facsimile), sometimes called, a telecopying or, a telefax (the latter short for telefacsimile), is the telephonic transmission of scanned printed material (both text and images), normally to a telephone number connected to a printer or other output device. The original document is scanned with a fax machine (or a telecopier), which processes the contents (text or images) as a single fixed graphic image, converting it into a bitmap, and then transmitting it through the telephone system in the form of audio-frequency tones.

The receiving fax machine interprets the tones and reconstructs the image, printing a paper copy, early systems used direct conversions of image darkness to audio tone in a continuous or analog manner. Since the 1980s, most machines modulate the transmitted audio frequencies using a digital representation of the page which is compressed to quickly transmit areas which are all-white or all-black.

Scottish inventor Alexander Bain worked on chemical mechanical fax type devices and in 1846 was able to reproduce graphic signs in laboratory experiments. He received British patent 9745 on May 27, 1843 for his “Electric Printing Telegraph. Frederick Bakewell made several improvements on Bain’s design and demonstrated a telefax machine.

The Pantelegraph was invented by the Italian physicist Giovanni Caselli. He introduced the first commercial telefax service between Paris and Lyon in 1865, some 11 years before the invention of the telephone. A facsimile (from Latin fac simile (‘make alike’), a spelling that remained in currency until the late 19th century) is a copy or reproduction of an old book, manuscript, map, art print, or other item of historical value that is as true to the original source as possible.

It differs from other forms of reproduction by attempting to replicate the source as accurately as possible in scale, color, condition, and other material qualities. For books and manuscripts, this also entails a complete copy of all pages; hence, an incomplete copy is a partial facsimile.

Invention And History Of The Sewing Machine

Invention And History Of The Sewing Machine, is going to be today’s post here in Discover My Inventions, a sewing machine is a machine that has added many different designs and makes the clothing that we where every day, sewing machines is used create many different fashions from baby clothing to the industrial sewing machines that use to create products made out of leather such as shoes boots seatbelts and much more.

A sewing machine is designed and used to stitch fabric and other materials together with thread. Sewing machines were invented during the first Industrial Revolution to decrease the amount of manual sewing work performed in clothing companies. Since the invention of the first working sewing machine, generally considered to have been the work of Englishman Thomas Saint in 1790, the sewing machine has greatly improved the efficiency and productivity of the clothing industry.

Home sewing machines are also designed for one person to sew individual items while using a single stitch type. In a modern sewing machine the fabric easily glides in and out of the machine without the inconvenience of needles and thimbles and other such tools used in hand sewing, automating the process of stitching and saving time, the Industrial sewing machines, by contrast to domestic machines, are larger, faster, and more varied in their size, cost, appearance, and task.

Charles Fredrick Wiesenthal, he was a German-born engineer working in England was awarded the first British patent for a mechanical device to aid the art of sewing, in 1755, his invention consisted of a double pointed needle with an eye at one end. Newton Wilson’s copy of Saint’s sewing machine, thomas Saint’s chain stitch used on the first ever complete sewing machine design for leather work. An awl preceded the eye pointed needle to make a hole in preparation for the thread.

In 1790, the English inventor Thomas Saint invented the first sewing machine design, but he did not successfully advertise or market his invention, his machine was meant to be used on leather and canvas material. It is likely that Saint had a working model but there is no evidence of one; he was a skilled cabinet maker and his device included many practically functional features: an overhanging arm, a feed mechanism (adequate for short lengths of leather), a vertical needle bar, and a looper.

Invention And History Of The Adding Machine

Invention And History Of The Adding Machine, is going to be today’s post here in Discover My Inventions, an adding machine was a mechanical built calculator, that was used for offices such as banks finance companies etc., the adding machine eventually faded away when the calculators were developed and then later the personal computer which took the place of the adding machine in the mid-1980s.

I take a great deal of interest in history and inventions of all kinds, and I can remember dealing with banks and finance companies to even local grocery stores when they will be using the adding machine, the adding machine was also a device used for home office use as well for people who worked from out of their homes, and I can remember when the handheld calculator come out which was digital a lot of people referred to them as a handheld adding machine.

It was Blaise Pascal and Wilhelm Schickard that was the two original inventors of the mechanical calculator in 1642; For Pascal this was an adding machine that could perform additions and subtractions directly and multiplication and divisions by repetitions, whilst Schickard’s machine, invented several decades earlier was less functionally efficient but was supported by a mechanised form of multiplication tables.

These two were followed by a string of inventors and inventions leading to those of Thomas de Colmar who launched the mechanical calculator industry in 1851 when he released his simplified arithmometer (it took him thirty years to refine his machine, patented in 1820, into a simpler and more reliable form). However, they did not gain widespread use until Dorr E.

Felt started manufacturing his comptometer (1887) and Burroughs started the commercialization of differently conceived adding machines (1892, an adding machine was a class of mechanical calculator, usually specialized for bookkeeping calculations. In the United States, the earliest adding machines were usually built to read in dollars and cents.

Adding machines were ubiquitous office equipment until they were phased out in favor of calculators in the 1970s and by personal computers beginning in about 1985. The older adding machines were rarely seen in American office settings by the year 2000.

Invention And History Of The Cash Register

Invention And History Of The Cash Register, is going to be today’s post here in Discover My Inventions, cash register what an invention it has been, cash register is a device that was invented in the 1800s and is used every few seconds 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

The cash register, is also referred to as a till in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries, is a mechanical or electronic device for registering and calculating transactions at a point of sale. It is usually attached to a drawer for storing cash and other valuables. The cash register is also usually attached to a printer, that can print out receipts for record keeping purposes.

An early mechanical cash register was invented by James Ritty and John Birch following the American Civil War. James was the owner of a saloon in Dayton, Ohio, USA, and wanted to stop employees from pilfering his profits. The Ritty Model I was invented in 1879 after seeing a tool that counted the revolutions of the propeller on a steamship, with the help of James’ brother John Ritty, they patented it in 1883.

It was called Ritty’s Incorruptible Cashier and it was invented for the purpose to stop cashiers of pilfering and eliminating employee theft or embezzlement, early mechanical registers were entirely mechanical, without receipts. The employee was required to ring up every transaction on the register, and when the total key was pushed, the drawer opened and a bell would ring, alerting the manager to a sale taking place. Those original machines were nothing but simple adding machines.

Since the registration is done with the process of returning change, according to Bill Bryson[6] odd pricing came about because by charging odd amounts like 49 and 99 cents (or 45 and 95 cents when nickels are more used than pennies), the cashier very probably had to open the till for the penny change and thus announce the sale.

Invention And History Of Pepsi Cola

Invention And History Of Pepsi Cola, is going to be today’s post here in Discover My Inventions, Pepsi-Cola a soft drink that has been around since 1893, Pepsi (currently stylized as pepsi and formerly stylized as PEPSI) is a carbonated soft drink produced and manufactured by PepsiCo.

Originally created and developed in 1893 and introduced as Brad’s Drink, it was renamed as Pepsi-Cola on August 28, 1898, and then as Pepsi in 1961. It is currently known in North America alternatively as Pepsi-Cola as of 2014, the drink Pepsi was first introduced as “Brad’s Drink in New Bern, North Carolina, United States, in 1893 by Caleb Bradham, who made it at his drugstore where the drink was sold.

It was renamed Pepsi Cola in 1898 after the root of the word dyspepsia and the kola nuts used in the recipe. The original recipe also included sugar and vanilla, bradham sought to create a fountain drink that was appealing and would aid in digestion and boost energy, In 1903, Bradham moved the bottling of Pepsi-Cola from his drugstore to a rented warehouse.

That year, Bradham sold 7,968 gallons of syrup. The next year, Pepsi was sold in six-ounce bottles, and sales increased to 19,848 gallons. In 1909, automobile race pioneer Barney Oldfield was the first celebrity to endorse Pepsi-Cola, describing it as A bully drink…refreshing, invigorating, a fine bracer before a race. The advertising theme Delicious and Healthful was then used over the next two decades. In 1926, Pepsi received its first logo redesign since the original design of 1905. In 1929, the logo was changed again.

In 1931, at the depth of the Great Depression, the Pepsi-Cola Company entered bankruptcy—in large part due to financial losses incurred by speculating on the wildly fluctuating sugar prices as a result of World War I. Assets were sold and Roy C. Megargel bought the Pepsi trademark. Megargel was unsuccessful, and soon Pepsi’s assets were purchased by Charles Guth, the President of Loft, Inc. Loft was a candy manufacturer with retail stores that contained soda fountains.

He sought to replace Coca-Cola at his stores’ fountains after Coke refused to give him a discount on syrup. Guth then had Loft’s chemists reformulate the Pepsi-Cola syrup formula, on three separate occasions between 1922 and 1933, The Coca-Cola Company was offered the opportunity to purchase the Pepsi-Cola company, and it declined on each occasion.
